The pharmacist Chaleo Yoovidhya founded TC Pharmaceuticals that formulated in 1981 an energy drink called Krating Daeng, or Red Bull in English. The Asian version of Red Bull was originally introduced as a liquid snack for Thai workers, made to provide factory workers with a quick energy substitute to continue their work. Chaleo then co-founded a company in 1984 with an Austrian partner Dietrich Mateschitz who helped turn Red Bull into a global brand. Unlike its Western counterpart Red Bull, Krating Daeng is an unsuaten energy drink and is sold almost exclusively in Southeast Asia.
